I've grown really attached to a lot of characters, their stories, and their struggles. But, something about the story of Edward Newgate (Whitebeard, aka Shirohige) and his lifelong journey to build and sustain a family of friends who truly care about each other really gets to me. The Whitebeard pirates have shared so many adventures together and made so many memories. They existed in different forms in different eras during the great age of piracy, but they were always together as a family. Whitebeard and his crew had gotten to grow up together while traveling the world and touching countless hearts, including that of Luffy's brother (Ace). It's really beautiful. I wanted to try to capture that in some way, so I did a thing and made an AMV/ASMV about the Whitebeard Pirates. It felt really fitting to go with 7 years by Lukas Graham, given this song has popped into my head plenty of times when reflecting on the journeys of the Whitebeard Pirates. Also, Marineford and the desperate struggle to save Portgas D Ace made for an incredibly cool arc! It felt like a really nice backdrop for the whole Ace, Sabo, and Luffy story that came after since it juxtaposed the end of Whitebeard's grand adventure with the start of the adventure that Ace, Sabo, and Luffy go on. For crybaby Monkey D Luffy, as he grows to become who he one day will, the story of the Whitebeard Pirates comes to an end. It would have been nice if there was a seven years long stretch of time that I could've highlighted in the AMV to fit the song more perfectly but I wasn't able to figure out a good way to do that. And as always thank you for supporting Duck Piece AMV.
