Sabata (1969) features Lee Van Cleef as the bounty hunter with an array of weaponry, that owes more to James Bond than the wild west. William Berger plays the gunman who conceals his weapon inside a banjo. Both form an uneasy alliance in their endeavors to outwit Franco Ressel's wonderfully sinister bad guy, who hides behind a mask of respectability as a pillar of society, when in fact ,he is emptying the bank vault for himself.Pedro Sanchez is great fun as the comic relief sidekick and was the only actor to appear in the following sequels. The wonderful catchy music score was composed by Marcello Giombini and director Gianfranco Parolini gives us one of the best examples of the Italian western outside of Leone.
