Tasmanian alderman loses ambassadorship over 'racist' golliwogs

Sky News host Chris Kenny says another case has popped up in Tasmania of people "desperate" to see racism where sometimes it does not exist - this time with a shop which sells golliwogs. "So it's nothing more sinister than a shop selling Golliwogs but this has become another front in the culture wars". Mr Kenny said an alderman for Clarence Council in Hobart, Brendan Blomeley has come under fire for his support of the shop saying how it was "wonderful" the "PC brigade" hadn't taken total control. "Now this has caused a stir, with claims that golliwogs are condescending towards African people and offensively racist, and the alderman cited the history of golliwogs to argue they are not racist but rather just dearly loved, old-fashioned dolls," Mr Kenny said. "It gets worse though, today we learn that Alderman Blomeley has lost his ambassadorship for a mental health foundation on the grounds of this racism. "So declaring your fondness for Golliwogs, selling them or defending them, is racist now, just like eating Coon cheese or buying Colonial beer." Mr Kenny also spoke with the Multicultural Council of Tasmania's Duncan Spender, who said Mr Blomeley intentionally tried to "pick a fight". "I think we should be clear here, Brendan Blomeley was trying to pick a fight," he said. "He explicitly tried to pick a fight by talking about the PC brigade."
