Apex High School is under a code red lockdown on Monday due to a potential threat. The school posted the notice around 9:15 a.m. on the school's website. Few details were provided, but the school said all students were safe. A code red lockdown is the highest security alert in Wake County Public Schools. In a code red lockdown, no one is allowed to enter or exit the building, and all students remain in their classrooms with doors locked. At 9:30 a.m., Sky 5 flew over the school at 1501 Laura Duncan Road, where police were entering and exiting the building. At least five police SUVs were parked outside. WRAL News is working to learn what caused the lockdown. Parents were asked to not come to the school to pick up their children, but a line of parents had already formed at the front door at 9:30 a.m. Under a code red, students will not be allowed to be dismissed until the lockdown ends. A lane was also blocked in front of the school, and police were directing traffic. Police could be seen handing out fliers to parents, but the writing was not visible from Sky 5.
