The Science of Stereotypes?: Keith Jason at TEDxEMU

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations) This talk will utilize personal experience to examine the potential roles that math and science play in the development of stereotypes, challenge the audience to examine if/what stereotypes they might hold, and provide suggestions for addressing stereotypes. Keith P. Jason is a two time graduate of EMU. He completed his BS in Marketing in 2003 and his MA in Student Affairs in 2005. He currently works for EMU as the Coordinator of Student Services in the College of Technology and serves as a co-chair for EMU's MLK Celebration. Keith was also elected as a Park Commissioner for Ypsilanti Township in 2012, but says his favorite job is being JaVon's husband and Jozef and Joziah's dad.
