On my second day in Udaipur I was curious to check out the so-called "James Bond Hotel" on Lake Pichola - the legendary Taj Lake Hotel where the Roger Moore film "Octopussy" was filmed. Known as the 'Venice of the East', the city of lakes Udaipur has some incredible surroundings in the local area of Aravallis, and I wanted to get a closer look. Beginning at the City Palace, I headed down for a boat ride across the lake towards the Taj Lake Hotel which unfortunately is closed to visitors (and at nearly $1000 per night, I wouldn't be checking in to!). Instead, I was bound for Jagmandir, a 17th century island palace with views to rival that of both Shiv Niwas and the Lake Hotel.
