8.3 Bond Enthalpy | Calculating Delta H | General Chemistry

Chad provides a lesson on how to use Bond Enthalpies to calculate Delta H for a reaction. Having already learned Hess's Law and using Enthalpies of Formation to Calculate Delta H, a third method for calculating a good approximate value for Delta H is presented here. It is contrasted specifically with using Enthalpies of Formation which involves taking the sum of the Produces minus Reactants as with Bond Enthalpies we take the sum of the Reactants minus Products. Trends in Bond Enthalpies involving multiple bonds, size, and electronegativity are presented as well as two example calculations of Delta H from Bond Enthalpies.
