In 1989, Miami Vice executive producer Michael Mann would create a failed television pilot for NBC called L.A. Takedown that was considered unmemorable. Luckily for the sake of our universal timeline, rogue NRA instructor Michael Mann would not be satisfied with it being a bargain bin film, and six years later entirely remade it. The end product is lauded as the greatest crime thriller ever made, a complex tale in which one man in a suit steals things, which causes the other, a policeman, to yell. As the first continues to steal, the other yells louder. Eventually he steals so much that the cop cannot yell any louder, and so they begin shooting at each other. This time things are quicker and line up far more visibly.
