Navigating Cancun's public transport system, especially the bus service, is not simple mainly due to various complex reasons. However, to make things easy, we'll explain the most simple means of getting around Cancun while avoiding the major obstacle to improvements in Cancun's public transport system, namely, the local taxi association. First thing before arriving, download the Moovit App from your app store to negotiate Cancun's public transport system and save loads of money. So, upon arriving at Cancun Airport, the main question is how to get to your hotel. * Option 1 (Budget is of no consideration): Pre-arrange with your hotel concierge at least 48 hours prior to arrival for an airport shuttle pick-up. This is MUCH cheaper and safer than acquiring transportation at the airport upon arrival. * Option 2 (Budget option): Take the ADO bus service from the airport to the ADO terminal in down-town Cancun (around MXN 140-00). The ADO station is also a designated taxi terminal, where the taxi association rates are more regulated and cheaper to take your to your hotel. Alternatively, just walk about 50 meters from the ADO terminal to leave the ADO station zone, which will allow you to use your normal Uber App (Uber services are geo-fenced at ADO terminal due to taxi association limitations). Uber is much cheaper than the taxi's, and also reliable. Note: Uber is not allowed [by the taxi association monopoly] to collect from any of the airport terminals. However, Uber is allowed to do drop-offs, so you can use Uber to catch your outbound flight from Cancun airport. Traveling in the Hotel Zone is much simpler. Here we recommend only using the red SEA busses which costs only MXN 12-00 (US$ 0.70) every time you board the bus. This is the most efficient and budget-friendly way to explore the 15-mile (24 km) Hotel Zone by hopping on the red SEA buses. These buses not only serve the Hotel Zone but also provide transportation to significant destinations like the Ultramar Ferry Terminal at Puerto Juarez, the ADO Bus Station, downtown Cancun, and even Market 28 (just look at the route indicators on the front window of the specific bus, or ask the driver). For MXN (Pesos) 12.00, you can travel the whole bus route. The driver usually has change available, but please be considerate and try NOT to pay with large denominations such as a MXN 500 bill. Your ticket remains valid for the duration of your bus journey. If you disembark at your destination and plan to board the bus again later, the cost is MXN 12.00 per ride. It's as simple as that! With approximately 90 bus stops in each direction within the Hotel Zone alone, you'll have an abundance of options to hop on and off at your desired locations.
