Vintage Housewares: Snack Sets

American glass manufacturers were always looking for new ways to provide glass products for use in the home, especially for entertaining. During the 1950's, many glassmakers started marketing "snack sets." These sets were designed for small meals or snacks, and featured a small plate and cup in matching pattern. Often they used existing patterns that were already featured in creamer-sugar combinations, salt and pepper shakers, relish trays, candy dishes, and other service-ware. These snack sets were handy for home entertaining, eating away from the dining room (in front of the new fad - television!), bridge games, club parties, and other social occasions.
