These are the viewing figures for Season 20 of Doctor Who. The most viewed story was The Five Doctors, with 7.7 million. The least viewed story was The King’s Demons, with 6.5 million. The season average was 7.1 million viewers, a 23.6% decrease from Season 19. Despite this being the 20th anniversary year, the viewing figures are quite the drop from the Fifth Doctor’s debut year on screen. The anniversary special, The Five Doctors, is unsurprisingly the victor, but at 7.7 million, you could be forgiven for thinking it could have had much higher ratings, given the excessive promotion, and being the centre piece of the Children in Need telethon. Most of Season 20 hovers around the 7 million mark, the King’s Demons coming bottom with 6.5 million. Not a bad score, but not a great one, and Doctor Who would have to pull out the stops in the future to consistently beat past this acceptable barrier.
