People that have had knee meniscus surgery often run into continued knee pain, swelling and even loss of knee motion after having a meniscus surgery. The expectation was to get back to normal, be able to walk, do stuff at home, be active with family, and possibly even exercise. But when the knee pain comes back (or never goes away) and there is knee swelling, it’s concerning and disappointing because it looks like the surgery didn’t work. Usually, there’s just been a mistake made when setting expectations about how a meniscus heals after surgery. A meniscus takes 6-12 months to heal depending on the severity of the meniscus problem. But most people are told they only need 2-3 months. In fact, people that do physical therapy, only attend for 2-3 months.
