Trier is well-known as Germany's oldest city. Founded by the Roman Empire in 16 BC, it used to be called Augusta Treverorum. The city of Trier became one of the most important cities in the Empire and one of the official residences of the Roman emperors. Nowadays, around 110,000 people call Trier home. The city lies next to the River Moselle and is well-known for its history, student parties, and vineyards. Because of its proximity to Luxembourg, many people choose it as their home base and drive every day to the neighboring country for work.
