Grizzly G0704 CNC Conversion First Motion

After working at building the system for several months, I've finally got motion from the CNC milling machine axes. Only a couple minor issues came up. The Z axis was running backwards, which was a simple fix by flipping a dip switch on the motor driver to change the motor direction. There was also a clunking noise when the Z axis would move up. Also another easy fix. I was being too conservative with the voltage driving the z-axis at only ~35 volts DC. It's rated for 110 volts DC maximum, and I was running it very near the lower limit. Because there was not enough power going to the motor, the closed loop position compensation circuit induced oscillations in the drive. Simply turning up the voltage solved the problem. The final voltage settings were 40 volts DC for the X and Y axes and the power supplies maximum voltage of 51 volts for the Z axis. I was running the voltages low to start. Less power = less torque = less damage in the event of a problem (crash).
