Here we use negative reinforcement with a low level stim to communicate to the dog. We start using it when the dog is doing well. Then it is very clear to the dog what is required when she makes a mistake. She is then motivated into the correct behaviour through the negative reinforcement provided by the ecollar. The level is low enough that it doesn't demotivated Shred but has enough meaning that she would still rather turn it off. It is important to remember that the ecollar should not be utilised all the time. We don't believe in a "working level" approach. Negative reinforcement must include escape and avoidance phases. We use both in this video. We also believe in training with food. Our approach comes from a deep belief in the need for struggle to provide purpose and ultimately true happiness. The dog is part of the hunt, as it is in the wild, she works for her food, and she seems to enjoy it. The session ends with a jackpot of sorts involving food and some love.
