Prince and Mia Maestro give press conference about new single

(14 Dec 2005) AP Entertainment Los Angeles, 13 December 2005 1. Wide exterior of The Regent Beverly Wilshire 2. Musician Prince and actor Mia Maestro enter press conference room 3. SOUNDBITE (English) Prince/Musician: "Thanks for coming everyone." 4. Camera cut away 5. SOUNDBITE (English) Prince/Musician: (Reporter: I want to find out what the touring dates are for this album.) "There's a tour plan but I don't want to talk about it because I'm inviting some of my old friends to join us. You'll be hearing about it." (Reporter: Prince, can you tell us about your influence of Spanish and why you went with that for this album?) SOUNDBITE (English) Prince/Musician: "This song is not really indicative of what the whole album sounds like." (Reporter: Then what's the inspiration behind this song?) SOUNDBITE (English) Prince/Musician: "I never really talk about the inspirations behind songs too much. I leave that up to the individual that listens to it. It spoils it otherwise." (Reporter: Prince you once labelled your title Warner Brothers as slavery so why are you jumping aboard the biggest slavery ship of them all?) SOUNDBITE (English) Prince/Musician: "I don't consider Universal a slave ship first of all. Mostly the situation with Universal is similar to the one with Sony in so much as that I did my own agreement, it wasn't a contract, I don't believe in contracts. I did my own agreement without the help of a lawyer and sat down and got exactly what I wanted to accomplish. The goals that I was trying to accomplish." (Reporter: So did you sign a contract at all with Universal or was this a hand shake deal?) SOUNDBITE (English) Prince/Musician: "It's basically a hand shake deal but we do sign some agreements to ensure that business gets accomplished. I would challenge all artists before they get into these agreements to sit down and actually ask that everyone of these things be explained to them like free goods clauses and digital rights and ownership of masters and that type of stuff." (Reporter: How long is this contract for?) SOUNDBITE (English) Prince/Musician: (Laughs and holds up a number one with his finger as he smiles at the reporter nodding his head confirming it's a "one".) (Reporter: Can you tell us a little more about the agreement, what the terms were etc..?) SOUNDBITE (English) Prince/Musician: "They're great (laughter)." (Reporter: You said that this is the agreement that you wanted. What exactly did you get out of it that you were..?) SOUNDBITE (English) Prince/Musician: "First of all I've done, I've been independent for a long time so to do any sort of agreement with a record company at this point would have to be in my interest. So that's basically all I'm going to say about it. It's a wonderful agreement." (Reporter: What made this in your interest?) SOUNDBITE (English) Prince/Musician: "Well what I said before that ultimately I got a chance to structure the agreement the way I saw fit as opposed to it being the other way around." (Reporter: Can you give us an example of what that means? That you think other artists should ask for?) SOUNDBITE (English) Prince/Musician: "They should first of all understand what it is they are signing as opposed to letting a lawyer dictate to them what the deal is supposed to be." (Reporter: Mia in terms of the video, how did you come to be casted with Prince?) 6. SOUNDBITE (English) Mia Maestro/Actor: "Well Salma Hayek is a good friend of mine who's directing the video. And she just gave me a call to be in it and of course I agreed immediately. It was a great honour for me to be part of this video."
