The Beauty We Have In Me (4/12) Childhood Tv Welcome to my little experiment. "The Beauty We Have In Me" is the first(?) musical poetry video album about the impact some of my favorite pieces of media have had on me throughout my life, while trying to pay homage to the movies/shows themselves. I find sometimes I'm moved or spoken to very profoundly through the most unexpected moment in media. I'm touched, impacted, and changed through these moments. whether it was just the right timing, or completely out of left field. These interactions with art: They help me navigate the gray area between white and black. They challenge me, inspire me, and often times offend me for a moment; but they all lead me to confront the gray, the pain and shame I'm battling on a daily basis, to better my being and my strengthen my beliefs. This project is me trying to encapsulate how those precious, and rare moments feel to me; the best I can, as authentically as I can. "I walk down the street and someone, 20 or 30 or 40 years-old will come up to me and say, 'You are Mister Rogers, aren't you?' "And then they tell me about growing up with the neighborhood and how they're passing on to the children they know what they found to be important in our television work. Like expressing their feelings through music, and art, and dance, and sports, and drama, and computers and writing. And invariably we end our little time together with a hug. I'm just so proud of all of you who have grown up with us. I know how tough it is some days to look with hope and confidence on the months and years ahead... and what's more, I'm so grateful to you for helping the children in your life to know that you'll do everything you can to keep them safe, and to help them express their feelings in ways that will bring healing in many different neighborhoods. It's such a good feeling to know we're life-long friends." -Mr. Rogers ‿̩͙‿ ༺ ♰ ༻ ‿̩͙‿ You sat down and heard the words I said But the stress and pain made them leave your head Come back, come back sweet innocence Into my messy house and shine. I miss you. The river says remember me? You'd skip stones in my water, swim in my streams. You'd fly dragons outside before lunch, You didn't care to save the princess just quite yet. Girls were slimy then. I hear a voice call, "follow me." But I'm doing important things. "Pause a minute, watch the wind.", But I don't see it. "Let's go exploring, what's over there?", these days I doubt I'd even care. "That tall tree aught to enjoy the view.", I've got to hold the birds, what would you have me do? What would you have me do? The voice calls out, "You're doing fine, but you dont need to hold the birds. The tree simply needs to be, the birds can hold themselves". Barefooted hikes, you can call me crazy. Built my fort in the woods but the forest burned down. The smoke meant the end of my hometown, I had to let go just to hold on again. Did I grow up fast! When I ran back to those ashes again, The snow had dampened the heat there in. It was gone, but I sure could pretend. Those two cinder snowmen are proud of me. I hear them singing. "Fight the good fight, raise holy hell. Be proud of who you are but don't yet settle. Go take care of that family your own, But please remember your a child as well."
