Martin Sheen and David Cronenberg say 'Dead Zone' villain resembles real-life U.S. presidents

Actor Martin Sheen and director David Cronenberg say the villain in 1983's "The Dead Zone" was not too far removed from real-life U.S. presidents. Sheen elaborates, "We've had some of those lunatics reach very high levels in public life and public service that have given us second thoughts. But playing that screwball was actually a lot of fun. I didn't realize the effect it could have on a lot of people, maybe for the better when they realize, 'If you get into high public office, you're carrying some pretty important responsibility, and you'd better be a responsible person.'" Cronenberg adds, "Unfortunately, you invite monsters and they pop up." Sheen also discusses working with Drew Barrymore and George C.
