Located in Karnataka, Mandya is a sulturally and spiritually significant city. Also referred to as the land of five rivers, Hemavathi, Cauvery, Veeravaishnavi, Shimsha, and Lokpavani, Mandya is blessed with natural charm. These rivers have also made the city religiously significant. Ruled by the prominent dynasties of those times like Cholas, Gangas, Vijayanagara, Hoysalas, Wadiyars, and more, the city showcases the glimpses of erstwhile times in its incredible temples and other ancient structures. The city was primarily influenced by the Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan rule as they made Srirangapatna their capital. Prehistoric settlements like Kuntibetta, Pandavapura, and Belakavadi give an idea about the growth and progress of this region. Mandya has also found its mention in ancient Indian epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana. Heavily dependent on agrarian economy, Mandya and surrounding areas are quite prosperous.
