Lake Sumner Forest Park encompasses so much from high country lakes, backcountry huts and a section of Te Araroa trail. 75km hiked over 4 days With the weather forecast looking questionable we left early Saturday morning for Loch Katrine then tramped to Three Mile Stream hut via McMillan Stream. Sunday we retraced our steps back down McMillan Stream, followed river flats to Mackenzie Stream and followed this up to Mackenzie Hut. Monday again retracing steps down Mackenzie Stream back to the Hurunui River flats heading up river to eventually cross and head up to bag No 3 hut, before following a brief section of Te Araroa trail down to Hurunui Hut. Tuesday we headed back to Lock Katrine and home.
