By examining the disruptive forces behind gentrification, Brian is engaged in understanding how its effects will bear on new relations between future generations of Latino and White inhabitants within the community of a fully-gentrified Bushwick. Brian Martinez is a sophomore from New York City majoring in Sociology, with a minor in Philosophy. Coming of age during a period of great spatial change in Bushwick, Brooklyn--and all throughout the city of New York--Brian has great empirical understanding of gentrification in urban spaces. At Colby, he hopes to supplement his empiricism with an understanding of the economic and social underpinnings of gentrification in the urban context. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
