How Chess Ruins Characters: The Many Failings of Lady Oscar

This video essay is a deep-dive into the characters of Lady Oscar and how, through them, the film functions—or fails—as both a romance and as an adaptation of The Rose of Versailles. All official art and manga scenes were scanned in and edited/adjusted by me. Subtitles in pink, translations of the French manga (where applicable), and the "essay cards" were all done by me. All anime scenes were edited/pared down to comply more stringently with Fair Use. I wanted to use longer clips but it just wasn't possible without waiting for a claim to be viewed and approved. This is my first attempt at a project like this, so I would appreciate feedback: ideas for future videos, suggestions for making my content better, or even just what you thought of this video! I only ask that you refrain from criticizing my poor pronunciation. I know it's bad; I have a speech impediment.
