The Sound of Fear: Dan Blumstein at TEDxUCLA

What do marmots have to teach us about the shower scene in Psycho? Dan Blumstein explains in his talk "The Sound of Fear." Daniel T. Blumstein is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, at UCLA, and a Professor in UCLA's Institute of the Environment & Sustainability. He has studied animal behavior and conservation biology in Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, Germany, Kenya, New Zealand, Pakistan, Russia, and the United States. He was an Editor of the journal Animal Behaviour, and is currently an editor for Evolution, Medicine, and Public Health, Associate Editor of the Quarterly Review of Biology, and is (or was) on the Editorial Boards of Behavioral Ecology, Biology Letters, and Ethology. A new thrust of his research works to integrate different fields and apply ecological, evolutionary, and behavioral principles to public policy. He is the Biology Editor of the on-line magazine, Evolution: This View of Life. He spends his summers studying marmot behavior and ecology at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory, Gothic, Colorado. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
