The Elder Scrolls Travels: Stormhold, Dawnstar, Oblivion — Elder Scrolls on your phone!

ZeniMax Studios, the parent company of Bethesda Software, maker of The Elder Scrolls, saw the phone market in the mid-2000s and was out for blood. They made one of their other acquisitions, Vir2L Studios, make a series of Elder Scrolls games for phones. To be clear, I don't mean smartphones: This is an era long before Elder Scrolls Blades. I mean feature phones. Flip phones. Dumb phones. They're hard to find and harder to play, but are they worth it? (No. No they are not.) Welcome to Obscuros Ludos. I play obscure games. === LINKS === This video is a review, but my full playthrough is available for all three reviewed games: Stormhold:    • The Elder Scrolls Travels: Stormhold ...   Dawnstar:    • TES Travels: Dawnstar Part 1 — Stormh...   Oblivion Mobile:    • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for Fe...   My last obscure game review was Sonic Jam for Game.com, a port of the quintessential Sonic games to the worst platform on Earth (yes, even worse than feature phones):    • Sonic Jam for Game.com: The worst Son...   Obscuros Ludos is an alternate channel for Yahweasel, who has played many other obscure games, such as: EverQuest NES bootleg Part 1 — It's another fetch quest game!    • EverQuest NES bootleg Part 1 — It's a...   zork (complete!) on a Teletype with Pie!    • zork (complete!) on a Teletype with Pie!   Roll-a-Word (Commodore 64) — All the boredom, none of the education!    • Roll-a-Word (Commodore 64) — All the ...   And many more    • Bootlegs   === FIXES === Stormhold and Dawnstar don't save properly under KEmulator due to bugs in its implementation of records. I have repaired these bugs and my updated KEmulator is available here. Install KEmulator Lite 0.9.8 in the usual way, then replace KEmulator.jar with the one linked below. Fixed KEmulator: https://www.yahweasel.com/dls/KEmulat... Source code for fixes: https://www.yahweasel.com/dls/KEmulat... Oblivion Mobile doesn't work well in emulators or (modern?) phones due to a race condition. I have repaired that race condition and the repaired Oblivion Mobile is available here: https://www.yahweasel.com/dls/oblivio... === CREDITS === The Elder Scrolls Travels: Stormhold The Elder Scrolls Travels: Dawnstar The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Mobile for Java Micro Edition compatible phones, by Vir2L studios, a subsidiary of ZeniMax Media, licensed by Bethesda Softworks Stormhold and Dawnstar played on KEmulator Lite 0.9.8 (repaired for these games: see info below) Oblivion Mobile played on a Nokia N-86 Other game footage included: The Elder Scrolls I: Arena played on DOSBox The Elder Scrolls Travels: Shadowkey played on a Nokia N-Gage & QD Bioshock (mobile port) by igfun played on a Nokia N-86 Tomb Raider: Anniversary (mobile port) by Eidos Mobile played on KEmulator Music by Kevin MacLeod: licensed under a Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 license http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... Java ME was formerly known as Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition or J2ME. Designed for mobile phones, the Mobile Information Device Profile includes a GUI, and a data storage API, and MIDP 2.0 includes a basic 2D gaming API. Applications written for this profile are called MIDlets. Almost all new cell phones come with a MIDP implementation, and it is now the de facto standard for downloadable cell phone games. However, many cellphones can run only those MIDlets that have been approved by the carrier, especially in North America. === THE ELDER SCROLLS TRAVELS === The Elder Scrolls Travels is a series of portable role-playing video games in The Elder Scrolls series, primarily developed and published by Vir2L Studios. The series consists of Stormhold (2003), Dawnstar (2003), Shadowkey (2004) and Oblivion Mobile (2006). Obscura Manete.
