Melanie is passionate about using economics to find creative solutions to a variety of policy problems. While studying abroad in Peru, she experienced the stark disconnect between the solutions researchers propose and the realities of policy implementation, and work on her honors thesis project inspired her to share the creative environmental conservation solutions that contradict traditional paradigms. When she's not talking about economics, you can find her singing, tap dancing, or planning a trip around the world. Melanie is a senior economics major and plans to attend graduate school in order to prepare herself for a career in public policy analysis. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
