We hiked the entire trail over two days. Day 1 was an out-and-back from the Iron Goat Interpretive Site in Scenic (at the caboose) to the eastern “First Cascade Tunnel” in Wellington (alternate trailhead). Day 2 we returned to the Iron Goat trailhead in Scenic then headed back up the switchbacks to the Upper Grade near the Windy Point Tunnel. This time we turned west instead of east and looped toward the Martin Creek Trailhead before returning to the “Caboose” trailhead. Lots of fascinating history is recorded on the numerous interpretive signs along the entire trail.
