Train Cab Ride NL / Utrecht - Amsterdam - Enkhuizen / VIRM Intercity / March 2019

Cab ride on the intercity service from Utrecht Central Station to Enkhuizen via Amsterdam Central Station on a Dutch windy day. With a very small delay of 1 minute we depart from Utrecht. It's a one and half hour drive. And a great ride to make as a driver. Just after leaving Utrecht you can see the train dispatchers building on the left. Stunning isn't it? :) A little further on the route you can see a faulty wire in the power lines. Just like on some other video's this is without danger for train traffic, but still the driver must notify such things to the dispatcher of that line. So that's what I do. While I do this I take the power of the engines so the train will lose a little bit of speed. After we reported the loose wire we give back all the power on the engines because we still need to get back that minute we lost in Utrecht. No problem so far. As soon as we pass through Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena we take the power off the engines and let the weight of the train do the rest of work until Amsterdam Amstel. Where we arrive perfectly on time. From this moment on it's a very relaxing ride to be honest. We arrive at all station as planned and we make stops in Amsterdam CS and Amsterdam Sloterdijk. From this moment on we continue as a direct train to Hoorn. This is because it doesn't fit in the train schedule to make a stop in Zaandam. This is because the bridges we have to pass on our way to Hoorn also need to be opened on certain times. A stop in Zaandam would mean one of the opening moments of the bridges would be lost. As soon as we arrive in Hoorn we have a few minutes of waiting. This is because the line to Enkhuizen is for a greater part build from one track. Earlier departure would mean we have to wait at the next stop because the intercity from Enkhuizen is on its way to Hoorn at that same moment. After Hoorn we stop on all station. Officially we're still an intercity. But I like to call it a 'sprintercity' over the intercom sometimes. Didn't do that today by the way! Just before our final stop in Enkhuizen our train manager gives an update to our travelers telling them Enkhuizen is the origin of the world. I like those sorts of messages! Great work! Thank you so much for watching. If you have any questions, just let me know in the comments! Cheers! Also follow me on:   / machiniststefan     / machiniststefan
