2000 WVU Football Highlights

The 2000 season marked the end of Don Nehlen's 21-year reign as head coach of the WVU football program. He felt that the program needed another push to reach the next level, and after a bitter last-second defeat by Syracuse he made the decision to retire. Over the next three weeks WVU won enough games to become bowl eligible, and accepted a bid to the Music City Bowl to play the University of Mississippi -- and a young Eli Manning, who nearly pulled off a comeback win. (Unfortunately the highlight video does not show Manning's effort at all.) More of a tribute to Coach Nehlen than a true highlight reel -- the Pitt game isn't mentioned at all (we lost) -- it nevertheless captures the feeling of the team in that critical season before they welcomed their next head coach: Rich Rodriguez.
