Coil Tattoo machine tuning, contact gap, springs and things you need to know Camber Custom

Just a bit of hopefully useful information about coil tattoo machine springs from Camber Custom Metalworks. during the peak I was doing 6 or 7 shows a year around England, I built over 860 machines total, every single one handmade and unique and all made here in my own workshops. Tattoo Master magazine came and did a 6 page feature on my machine building courses, which were the only ones of their kind in the world. Unfortunately , the new breed of rotary foreign made junk gradually took hold , shows got quieter then covid set in so I made the decision to stop travelling about and ultimately to diversify my workshops to different products and only build to demand not for stock and soon stopped building altogether due to other commitments. I continue to support all of my builds that are still with their original owners ( most of them are ) and believe it or not as each machine was sold I kept a record of who bought it etc. I always did my best to avoid selling to scratchers, my hatred for them ruining this artform is still with me, and this got me bad reviews on scratcher forums etc, which I never cared about for obvious reasons. The lengths some of them went to to try to buy some of my stuff was crazy, the excuses, the scams etc but i knew most of them already. Even at shows where the big dealers, you know the ones, the usual mobs in the UK, that would sell machines to anyone yet claim they didn't, I still turned them away. Only to watch them go to a big dealer opposite me and buy a machine with no questions asked. Madness. My conscience was always clear. I loved my time within the industry, met some amazing people and made some really good friends over the years. Maybe one day, when I retire from full time employment, I'll have the chance to build a few more just for fun, I hope I don't forget how it's done but I guess I could always go back and watch some of the videos on here, eh !!. Enjoy, take care and stay safe always.
