I love collagens... and you should too | Morten Asser Karsdal | TEDxTechnicalUniversityOfDenmark

Collagens are the main structural component of all tissues. Just like the beams of the Eiffel Tower that is essential for the construction. We need those collagens and beams to have optimal quality and strength, if not catastrophizes happen. We all know collagens from skin products. We would like to have beautiful collagens. But collagens are more than beauty. Many diseases are the result of bad collagens. Bone diseases with bone fractures is the result of a mutation in the skin collagen, type I collagen. In essence chronic diseases are the result of collagens gone bad. We have seen that in all chronic diseases, the collagens have changed – and as the disease spreads and gains strength, the collagens continue to change for the worse at a rapid pace. Each organ in the body needs to be constantly repaired to sustain healthy. Consequently the collagens are remodeled, which supports those tissues. If we could understand those signals of regeneration, how tissues are remodeled, we could cure most diseases, renew the body’s organs, reverse chronic diseases. Morten Asser Karsdal is an outstanding researcher and professor with more than 500 publications behind his back. He is also the author of “Biochemistry of Collagens, Laminins and Elastin”, which provides a comprehensive introduction to collagen and structural proteins. “Collagens are the main structural component of all tissues.
