The New 400-750 nm ePAR Range Explained with Dr. Bruce Bugbee

A new definition of Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR) is emerging from extensive research by Dr. Bruce Bugbee Dr. Shuyang Zhen at Utah State University. https://www.apogeeinstruments.com/epa... In this video, Bruce Bugbee explains how this new ePAR range of 400-750 nm (extended photosynthetically active radiation) is more complete for measuring the photosynthetic radiation output of light sources than the traditional 400-700 nm PAR range that has been used for decades. Bruce also introduces the MQ-610 and SQ-610 ePAR sensor line from Apogee Instruments that are designed to measure this newly defined ePAR range. VIDEO CONTENT 00:44 The differences between Apogee's classic quantum sensors (400-700 nm), the current ePFD sensor (340-1040), and the new ePAR sensor (380-760). 04:21 Apogee's PAR-FAR sensor (model S2-141) separately measures classic PPFD (400-700 nm) and far-red. 05:43 An "instrument" is a sensor connected to a meter, and Apogee offers two types of meters. 08:20 Bruce explains why it's important to measure these different types of radiation: "Toward an optimal spectral quality for plant growth (photosynthesis) and development (plant shape)". The results of Dr. Shuyang Zhen and Dr. Bugbee's research is what led to the development of the ePAR sensor. 12:25 Changing the definition of photosynthetic radiation to include far-red and UV photons. 13:19 Two slides that explain the biochemistry of photosynthesis and the effects of adding far-red. 18:05 Adding far-red and its effects on canopy photosynthesis. 22:55 UV wavelengths of light. 28:30 Summary of spectral effects on plants. ------ Follow us to see all the cool places our sensors are used, get notices for free classes and how to videos, and product announcements! -Facebook   / apogeeinstruments   -Twitter   / apogeeinst   -LinkedIn   / 1084851   -Instagram   / apogee_instruments   ------ BUY AN ePAR SENSOR https://www.apogeeinstruments.com/epa...
