Mr. Keating, the English teacher, asks the class to compose a poem of their own - an original work, and deliver it aloud in front of the class. The first boy, Knox Overstreer, delivers a poem to Chris - a girl he has a crush on. Mr. Keating goes to a cynic boy who was laughing and asks him up. The boy goes up and reads: "The cat, sat on the mat". All class is laughing and Mr. Keating says to Hopkins: "We're not laughing at you, we're laughing near you". Mr. Keating approaches Todd Anderson, a shy student, and tells him to recite his poem. Todd says he didn't write one. Mr. Keating provokes and stimulates Todd to make one up right now in an epic scene. Turn captions on!
