Fishing for exotics in the Florida Everglades - You won't believe how much fish is out there!

You won't believe how many exotic fish are in the everglades. The bite is super hot and you can catch anything from Mayan Cichlids to Peacock Bass and Piranha. If you were thinking of making a trip out to the Amazon, just save your money and take a short car ride to the Florida Everglades. Watch how the diminutive Yoyito handline reel lands one fish after another. The video is long, but I'm using single takes to give you a real sense of how it takes from casting the line to landing the fish. This 17 minute sequence was filmed while I fish a small stretch of the Tamiami canal for about 30 minutes or so. About the ony I edited out of the video was me walking back to the little container with the nightcrawlers for bait my hook again. This little critters fight hard but are not match to the efficiency of a handline. It simply does not get any simpler than handlining with live worms. The mighty Oscar, pound per pound is a better fighter than Largemouth Bass. I think of them as the Jacks of freshwater, but unlike the Jacks they are great eating fish. Succulent flaky white meat with the sweetness of crappie. Catch & cook these guys for an awesome meal and help control their population. Mayan Cichlids are also a delectable fish and given their incredible abundance you can feed the entire family in just an hour of fishing. The Everglades is home to fantastic range of species that include the venerable Peacock Bass, Pacu, Mayan Cichlids, Oscars, Walking Catfish and even the giant Arapaima just to name a few. An all this is in addition to the native species like Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, sunfish of several varieties, Warmouth, Pickerel, large Bluegill and several types of catfish. There is also the saltwater species that venture deep in the glades like snook. The ambiance is complete with plentiful alligators and a large variety of cranes and other birds that prey on fish. You can commonly see American Bald Eagles, Ospreys and hawks hard at work fishing along side you. If you are think of getting into fishing, check out this video.
