The recent Lok Sabha elections indicated a change in voter sentiment, raising questions about the outcome in the high-stakes seven assembly constituencies from Pusad to Umarkhed. This analysis will explore who the seven MLAs of Yavatmal might be and which way the district's verdict will swing this time. First Constituency - Wani: The Wani constituency, blessed with mineral wealth and known as the 'Black Diamond' region, has 13 coal mines. Every assembly election, the key issue is local employment in coal mines. BJP's current MLA, Sanjeev Reddy Bodakolwar, first won the seat in the Modi wave of 2014 and maintained his victory in 2019 against Congress's Vamanrao Kasawar. Despite this, the recent Lok Sabha elections saw Congress's candidate leading in Wani, suggesting increased chances for Congress in the upcoming assembly elections. Wani's politics revolves around employment and agriculture, with the Kunbi community playing a decisive role. Second Constituency - Ralegaon: Reserved for tribals, Ralegaon has 85% rural and farming communities. Dr. Vasant Purke of Congress dominated this constituency from 1995 until 2014, when BJP's Ashok Uike took over. Uike's strong local connections and communication helped him defeat Purke again in 2019. However, the recent Lok Sabha elections saw the Congress gaining ground, putting Uike's seat in jeopardy for the upcoming assembly elections. Third Constituency - Yavatmal: The Yavatmal constituency has a rich political history. BJP's Madan Yerawar first won in 2004, lost to Congress in 2009, and regained the seat in 2014 and 2019. Despite his ministerial role, Yerawar faced a tough competition from Congress's Balasaheb Mangulkar in 2019.
