We apologize for the mistake. ───────────────────── KEY ART AND DESIGN FOR FILM If you’ve ever been inside a movie theater or a dorm room, you’ve probably noticed the importance of movie posters. Posters can be as iconic as the movie they’re advertising. Think of the posters for Pulp Fiction, Scarface, Trainspotting, The Godfather– these pieces immediately evoke a time and place (which, again, may be a dorm room). But what goes into designing posters? To get an answer to this question, we talk with key artist Erik Ries, who has designed some of the most iconic film posters of the past few decades, including Girl, Interrupted, The Green Knight, and Killers of a Flower Moon, to name a few. KEY ART DESIGN EXPLAINED As Ries explains, posters are just one part of the larger umbrella of key art. Ries describes what key art is exactly, and discusses what work goes into creating it. A key art artist needs to have a lot of specific skills to be able to execute at a high level. HOW TO DESIGN A POSTER Ries also walks us through his process when designing a poster. It’s not as simple as making a nice image. A great poster must encapsulate the key ideas of a film, while also getting across key information. This might be the big names involved, the catchy tagline, or the other movies the filmmakers had made previously. As Ries makes clear, designing a poster requires attention to detail, an eye for the bigger marketing strategy, and lots of creativity. Even more than the trailer, this is what your movie will be identified by for a long time. Make it count. #FilmTheory #VideoEssay #Filmmaking ───────────────────── Music by Artlist ► https://utm.io/umJx Music by Artgrid ► https://utm.io/umJy Music by Soundstripe ► http://bit.ly/2IXwomF Music by MusicBed ► http://bit.ly/2Fnz9Zq ───────────────────── SUBSCRIBE to StudioBinder’s YouTube channel! ►► http://bit.ly/2hksYO0 Looking for a production management solution for your film?
