Mazzy Star - Compilation "ALBUM" - 9 UNRELEASED SONGS from live shows, updated Feb, 2019

Oct.29, 2020 update: new additional info and song titles corrections (tracks 6,7,8, &9 have been corrected or verified. A 2nd set list used on stage in 1990 surfaced and has the best info yet on correct titles of unreleased 1990 tour song titles in this collection. A photo of it is in the new thumbnail. I found it at this NPR site article: https://www.wbur.org/npr/244014650/qu... 01 Leaving on a Train, starts at 0.00, ( 2000, June 4, Copenhagen, venue: Loppen) 02 When You Were Young, 3:17, (2000, June 4, Copenhagen) 03 Plain Gold Ring, 8:13 (2000, June 4, Copenhagen, cover of a song best known via Nina Simone's 1950s version) 04 Rock Section, 18:28, (The Colours Out of Time cover, 1993-10-26, Paris, The Black Session, radio studio) 05 Mona, 27:30, (Bo Diddley/Rolling Stones cover, 1997-03-23, The Mint, L.A.). A Bo Diddley song Hope likely heard first via the early Rolling Stones cover of it when she was a teenage ultra-fan of The Stones. 06 Candle Song, 36:55, (1990, Aug. 9, NYC, Woody's) 07 Walk in the Dark, 43:26 (1990, Aug. 9, NYC, Woody's) 08 It's Over, 46:49, (1990-09-14, Cleveland, Babylon A Go Go.) 09 Where Did You Go (previously known as Where Did You Run To), 4:31, (1990, Aug. 9, NYC, Woody's. Originally played by Hope's early duo Going Home, then Opal with Hope, then Mazzy Star) The slide show includes lyrics (my own attempted transcriptions) of each of four recordings of unreleased songs from 1990 shows 'cause those songs are hardest to discern words to from the recordings. Six of the nine songs appear to likely be unreleased original songs by Mazzy Star. The other three (tracks 03, 04, & 05) are covers. *Track 01 is has typically been known as "Leaving on a Train" in bootleg recordings titles lists. That may not be its true title. We do know the word "Train" is in its title, however, from two 1994 set lists used on stage by the band. Both set lists have shortened song titles, and included "Train." We learned correct titles to tracks 02, 06, 07, 08, 09 (see correct titles in track list above) when a scan of a hand written set list used on stage in 1990 at a Columbia, S.C. show turned up. The titles shown on the set list identify five 1990s songs from this compilation by my cross-referencing discernible lyrics to titles. Previously, correct titles to those three songs were uncertain. Thanks go to Ray Sferra who taped and shared the 1990 Cleveland show that includes the rare song "It's Over." Ray's is the only recording I know of that exists of the song). Thank you to kneesfudd who remastered Ray's recording and improved the audio. Thank you to Scott Simpson for recording and sharing the 1990 Woody's, NYC show. Three songs from that show are included here. Thanks go to all show tapers, named and unnamed. Without their initiative and generosity, fans wouldn't have these recordings of rare Mazzy Star songs to enjoy. In addition to the four 1990 original songs whose lyrics appear in the slide show, here are LYRICS to a few covers, ones hardest to discern words to in these recordings (yt won't give me room enough to post all lyrics). 04 PLAIN GOLD RING (by Earl S. Burroughs, a cover best known in Nina Simone's version) Plain gold ring on his finger he wore It was there for everyone to see In my heart I will never be free Long as he wears a plain gold ring Plain gold ring Plain gold ring on his finger he wore It was there for everyone to see In my heart it will never be spring Long as he wears Long as he wears Long as he wears a plain gold ring Plain gold ring...(etc.) I can't stop these teardrops of mine So I'm gonna love him So I'm gonna love him So I'm gonna love him till the end of time Plain gold ring on his finger he wore It was there for everyone to see In my heart it will never be spring Long as he wears Long as he wears Long as he wears a plain gold ring Plain gold ring A plain gold ring... (etc.) ......................................................... 05 ROCK SECTION (The Colours Out of Time cover) Do I want to die? Do I want to die? Do I want to jump in the water? Do I want to die? Do I want to jump in the water? How to love in a cave How to walk in the shade Didn't want to die Didn't want to jump in the water (Repeat above verse) I hear you say Rock, rock, rock section Rock, rock, rock section Rock, rock, rock section ...................................................... 06 MONA (by Bo Diddley. Rolling Stones covered it on their first album) Tell you Mona what I wanna do I wanna build a house next door to you Can I see you sometime We can blow kisses through the blind Yeah, can I come out on the front Listen to my heart go bumpity bump I need you baby that's no lie Without your love I'll surely die I said hey Mona Oh Mona I said yeah Yeah yeah yeah Mona Oh Mona
