EXTREMELY Rusty Blacksmith Vise Restoration - Custom Spring and Stand

In this video I will be restoring an old post vice. This was a challenging and educational restoration. As you will see i purchased this vice without a spring. Little did I know how hard it would be to make one. I began by cleaning up the vice and once all the rust was removed the real work started. Once the vice was clean and rust free I applied danish oil to protect the metal. Although I have used danish oil on some other tools with great results and no rust issues I wanted to know if this finish would hold up in the sun and rain. Only time will tell. In order to make a spring I had to make a homemade forge. After 7 hours of heating, hammering, bending and 10 kilos of coal the spring was completed and to my astonishment it worked. My next challenge was to make the base. Although I love woodwork i am terrible at cutting straight lines. Luckily after only a few mistakes i managed to take a design from my head and create a functional and smart base. Finally after 3 weeks of hard work and a lot of learning I managed to finish this project. I hope like the video and appreciate the choices I made in this restoration. Thanks for watching.
