Lessemsaurus was a massive sauropodomorph dinosaur who lived in Argentina during the Late Triassic Period. With an estimated weight of seven tons, Lessemsaurus was not only one of the largest Triassic dinosaurs, but also one of the largest animals to have evolved by that point. Lessemsaurus is the namesake for the clade Lessemsauridae. While not considered true sauropods, Lessemsauridae is the sister clade to the true sauropods and the lessemsaurids already had most, but not all, of the traits that distinguished the sauropods from their “prosauropod” ancestors.
