The video is a compilation of film and video from several people including: Greg Smith (from his collection - Lee Paris photographer), Aaron Isaccs and Paul Gruetzman (see list below) The films were taken in the 1940s and 1950s in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul, as well as Greater Minnesota and Wisconsin. The list of trains and topics in the video is below. They films were taken are in Black and White and early Color. They've been edited and some additional footage and music from the period has been added. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.tcmrm.org/ ------------------------------------------- The Museum is located on Transfer Road (Cleveland Ave) near University Avenue next to the old Amtrak Station. The address is 668 Transfer Road - Suite 8 St. Paul Minnesota 55114 -------------------------------------------------------------------- The Twin City Model Railroad Museum has many of different types of trains, buildings and other models – of all sizes. There are many different model: gauges, scales and sizes - including: O Scale - the internationally renowned O Scale layout - 1/48th G - Garden – about 1/24th Standard Gauge -1/32nd O Scale – 1/48th - Lionel Trains LEGO Gauge - approx. 1/55th S Scale – 1/64th – American Flyer Trains OO Scale 1/72nd HO Scale – 1/87th OOO Scale - 1/152nd N Scale 1/ 160th Z scale – 1/220th. Toy trains are also represented from different manufacturers including: Lionel, American Flyer, Märklin Marx Hornby and others There are also exhibits that show the various scales side by side - for comparision - inlcuding the International Train Display at the rear of the Museum. The Children's Area has many different layouts for the girls and boys to operate as well as work tables where they can create and build models and run wooden trains. There is a LEGO Work Area and Thomas the Tank Trains to run as well. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Trains The Milwaukee Road Hiawatha is shown at the Minneapolis Milwaukee Depot with an F-7 Baltic 4-6-4 Steam Loco in the lead The engineer checks the running gear and the departs with the train The Hiawatha is shown in South Minneapolis heading out across the Shortline Bridge over the Mississippi River A PCC Streetcar is shown stopping on 30th Ave So in Minneapolis as a Milwaukee Steam Switcher pulls a cut of cars towards the South Minneapolis Yard. Standard Twin City Rapid Transit streetcars (which were built in Minneapolis) are shown running on 30th avenue South Great Northern F-TA / F-TB Diesel locomotives with a passenger train - head West from the St Paul Union Depot towards Minneapolis and North Dakota Chicago & NorthWestern E-6A / E-6A Diesel locomotives with The 400 passenger train head East towards Chicago from the St Paul Union Depot Chicago & Northwestern Gas Electric train - The Namekagon - leaves St Paul Union Depot for Ashland Wisconsin Then the photographer was stood in the last car of the passenger train he was riding backed into the St Paul Union Depot The Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Chicago & Northwestern and Chicago Great Western passenger trains had to back into the St Paul Union Depot so that they could pull out and go west towards Minneapolis A Northern Pacific steam locomotive pulls a freight train under the 7th Street Bridge just north of the St Paul Union Depot A Northern Pacific 2-8-2 Mikado type steam locomotive is coming south into St Paul with a the freight train Another Northern Pacific 2-8-2 is shown North of St Paul heading towards Duluth A NP 2-6-2 Prairie type steam locomotive is shown with a local freight heading towards Duluth Two Milwaukee steam locomotives are heading Two Burlington steam locomotives are pulling a freight train towards St Paul near Cottage Grove Minnesota The photographer was riding on a westbound Great Northern passenger train traveling on a Burlington passenger train heading towards Minneapolis St Paul along the Mississippi River the Great Northern and Northern Pacific owned the Burlington controlled the Burlington and so we're able to use the tracks from St Paul to Chicago to run the passenger trains through the twin cities and on to Chicago The final scene shows the view from the train coming into the St Paul Union Depot the view of downtown St Paul -------------------------------------------------------- The video is a compilation of film and video from several people Thanks go to: Greg Smith for providing the film The films from the 1940s were taken by Lee Paris.
