John Ritter Lost His Father’s Respect, but This Earned It Back

Did you know that John Ritter's father was a country singer by the name of Tex Ritter, and did you know that they both died from the same type of heart failure? Even though his father didn't respect actors, John Ritter still decided that he wanted to become one halfway through college. John had been pursuing a degree in psychology but decided to pursue a career in the dramatic arts instead after becoming passionate about the field. Tex was devastated, preferring that John venture into a stable career instead of a career in the entertainment industry. John’s brother, Tom, became a lawyer and went on to find immense success in the field. Tex likely would've preferred for John to do something like that, though things turned out okay for John Ritter anyways! Before Tex Ritter’s death in 1974, John managed to win over his father’s respect with his role as Reverend Matthew Fordwick on the hit series The Waltons. As a religious man, Tex enjoyed seeing his son tasked with performing in the role of a positive religious figure. Tex passed away from heart failure, and the same specific type of heart failure took John’s life nearly three decades later. After his father’s death, John Ritter rose to fame thanks to his role on the hit 1977 series Three’s Company. John would maintain success in the entertainment industry in the remaining years until his death, with him passing away during the filming of the second season of the successful sitcom 8 Simple Rules.
