In celebration of the birthday of one of my favorite characters in Love Live! as well as possibly one of the most underrated and misunderstood characters in the series, I decided to take yet another look into one of the core members of Aqours: Watanabe You! While she does get her own episode, it seems that people fail to realize what her purpose is in the story and just how important she actually is. Many fans will claim that she has no bigger character moments and seems to fall into the shadows while Chika continued to take the spotlight, but statements like that are fundamentally misunderstanding just who she is and why her not taking the center might be one of the most important reasons why Aqours’ tiny light was able to reach as far as it did. It could even be said that, had Watanabe You never pushed the normal monster forward, there would be no Aqours. Without the girl who pulled her friend towards the light so they could shine together, Chika would have never found her shine and Aqours would have never left their mark on history.
