About the museum: Maboroshi Hakurankai, or the "Phantom Exposition," was put together by Ryunosuke Matsushita. He wanted to save and share Japan's weird and wonderful folk traditions and artifacts. The name reflects his goal of capturing the mysterious and often forgotten aspects of Japanese culture. The museum features all sorts of quirky exhibits, from old carnival games and odd toys to strange medical devices and unusual historical items. Matsushita traveled around Japan collecting these rare and unique pieces. He wanted to create a fun place where visitors could explore and appreciate Japan's odd and quirky heritage.
