Here are two foods to support brain growth. Plus, a free visual birth plan. Baby at 32 Weeks Pregnant 🚼 32 weeks baby in womb, baby at 32 weeks in womb, 32 weeks pregnant inside the womb, 32 weeks pregnant baby position, 32 weeks pregnant baby moving Baby is closing in on 4 pounds, and he’s about 18 inches in length. Yep, your little butternut squash is working hard! Upstairs, baby’s brain is working it too, establishing the trillions of connections—or synapses—between neurons. Sound intense? I’m sure it is! Which is why baby’s starting to sleep more hours each day—not that you would know it... from all the jabs and kicks you’re probably feeling. Now, you and I both know that every part of baby’s development is miraculous. But when you get into the details of brain development, the complexity and precision are mind-boggling. Babies are born with around 100 billion neurons. At birth, baby has around 50 trillion connections or synapses. In the first 3 months after birth, the number of synapses increases 20 times over. We’re talking 1,000 trillion synapses by age one. Some quick perspective: It would take you 30,000 years just to count to one trillion. How mind-blowing and miraculous is that??? You at 32 Weeks Pregnant 🚺 Since your baby’s brain is really growing now... let's talk about foods you can eat to support baby’s smarts. Like omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA). You can get them from pastured eggs, fatty fish that’s low in mercury like wild-caught salmon and sardines, and good ol' cod liver oil. (Double check your safe fish/seafood options here.) Some studies show that pregnant mamas who consume plenty of DHA improve their baby’s brain and visual development. And the DHA can also help prevent premature delivery and the baby blues. BRING IT! Healthy carbs can also help to grow your baby’s brain, since it feeds on glucose. Think fresh fruit smoothies and root vegetables like sweet potatoes, yams, beets, plantains, and more. Here’s more information on your perfect pregnancy diet. Visual Birth Plan 💡 There is a beauty and mystery to birth that is truly sacred. We get to participate in life itself, and it’s the ultimate high. And while we don’t know exactly how it will unfold, we can express our wishes and desires. Which is where a birth plan comes in. Think of your birth plan as a roadmap… a list of desires to be honored and upheld as much as possible during your birth. But, for most mamas who are with midwives and have a doula, a birth plan is merely an affirmation for what you both desire for the birth… a natural one with as few interventions as possible. If you’re not in a natural birth environment, know that a birth plan won’t necessarily save the day or miraculously transform things. But it can stand as a testimony to your intentions. The key is to have a plan that’s easy for folks to read at a glance. Because when a nurse is rushing about while baby's crowning, the last thing she’s gonna do is peruse a 38-bullet list. Pregnancy Week 32 To-Dos ✅ Think about what clothes you want to labor in. Is it your most comfortable t-shirt? Just a sports bra? Or will you just go naked? Sounds trivial, but you’ll want to feel good about yourself whatever you decide to wear (or not wear). It's baby shower time! Are you counting baby's kicks each day?
