Since the announcement of GamePass Ultimate in 2019, I've been doing the "trick" where you can purchase up to 36 months of Xbox Live Gold (at a significantly lower price than buying GamePass Ultimate outright) and then buying one month of GamePass Ultimate and then being able to convert all of my current Gold months to GamePass Ultimate at a 1:1 ratio.
