Initially, Billy Joel did want to participate in the 'Live Aid' event, but his band was busy with other projects, so he did not show up to the show. This is quite ironic, as he has performed numerous times to perform solo in different venues, in addition to performing songs by himself before huge audiences, but he did not dare to perform alone at Live Aid. He had a chance at something similar, the 'Farm Aid' show. In this show, his band is reunited, except for Mark Rivera, Dave LeBolt, George Sims, and Peter Hewlett.
