The British actor stars as Russian poet and dissident Eduard Limonov in the film directed by Kirill Serebrennikov - his fourth film to be selected for the festival's main competition. The drama describes Limonov as - among other things - a thug, a butler to a millionaire, a novelist, and a revolutionary militant, as it follows his life in Russia, America and Europe during the second half of the 20th century. Serebrennikov's three previous films nominated for the Palme are "Tchaikovsky's Wife" in 2022; "Petrov's Flu" in 2021 and "LETO" in 2018. Also starring Viktoria Miroshnichenko, "Limonov - The Ballad" is one of 22 films competing for the Palme d'Or. The winner will be decided by a jury headed by Greta Gerwig.
