SAR_Flight_Planning_Tool_Directional is an Excel program to define a flight path for drones capable of uploading, translating and executing a flight plan in KML format. It was primarily developed for a DJI M30T. The directional version is designed to create a flight path to search for a subject that is moving in a known direction. This video is to demonstrate how to use the tool. The flight path is completely configurable for the geospatial layout of the flight path, while detailed settings like speed or camera settings will have to be programmed on the drone or other third-party apps. Features include: • Will develop a flight path in a given direction, diverging at a given angle. • Will maximize a given flight time to gain ground on the subject as fast as possible, then backtrack for a slow search from the furthest point back to the starting point. • Satellite imagery is integrated into the map for easy orientation.* • Output is either a 2D or 3D** terrain-following flight path in KML format. This is not meant to be a polished, stable, cross-platform app, for that there are paid apps out there. This is a relatively fast, yet customizeable solution.
