ESL Games (GWG) # 26 Professor X

Hey Youtube! We are Guys With Games ESL/EAL Activities. We share new games every week for you to use in the ESL classroom. Our focus is teaching English in a fun way and sharing games that deliberately make English the main entree, not just a side dish. If you want to know more about us, check out our channel: shorturl.at/ELMWZ Want to reach out? Email us at [email protected] Today’s Game: In today’s video, David (USA) with assistance from our other team member, Ximena, teaches us how to play a fun and engaging game for your ESL Students using just markers, a white/blackboard, and your imagination! Name of the game: Professor X Materials: Board Markers/chalk Imagination Scrap Paper Prepped topics Ideal class size: - 6-20 Students Instructions: Divide your ESL class into teams as small as two and as large as 4 students per team. This game plays on Professor X, a character from the X-Men movies who can read minds and move objects telekinetically! What the students in each team have to do is guess five words that the teacher might have thought that are related to a certain topic. In the example, David uses the topic "fruit" and encourages teachers to make the vocabulary easier for younger children/lower levels and harder for the more advanced students. i.e., if your students are more advanced, try to make them think of less common fruits like "passionfruit" or "guava", not just "banana" or "apple". Once you've defined the topic, give the students a moment to write down their guesses until you call pencils down! Go over each of the words you wrote, writing them on the board and giving points to the team who guessed and spelled them correctly (they must show the teacher their paper for approval). Thanks for watching! Guidelines for submitting games: Please submit only games that are English-focused. Games that don’t have an English element beyond just using English to explain the rules won’t be considered. Things to tell us about your game: Title Where you found it (if you made it up) Materials needed Size of group Instructions Want to send your own video? Send us an email and we’ll send you instructions on how to be featured on GWG! [email protected] Want to share your own game? Check out our guidelines at the bottom of this description.
