In this ninth video in my series "Raising Beef Cattle for Beginners," I show you how some local cowboys helped me work my cows and calves this year using cattle dogs. "Working calves" can mean different things to different people, but for me, it means vaccinating, worming, and ear-notching all of my calves, and castrating my bull calves. Every year I dread this process because my cows are ornery and skittish, and I usually have to entice, cajole, or trick them into entering the cattle pens, which usually turns into a fiasco. So this year I decided to hire some guys to help me round up my cows and calves on horseback using cattle dogs. How did it turn out? Well, you'll just have to watch the video to find out!
