Never heard of Mary J. Holmes? Well, you should have. Holmes was a best selling author for decades. She was a favorite of both my grandmother and my great-grandmother on opposite sides of the family. One of her stories inspired the other grandmother's name. There is some research on her on my blog, but most importantly her book is the only novel mentioned by title in the "Little House" books. It's called "Millbank." The one with my Grandmother's name is a collection of stories called "Homestead on a Hillside."
